Saint Francis was a famously simple guy. In 1226, he died and was buried in his favorite, simple little chapel. Two years later, Pope Gregory IX granted an indulgence of 40 days out of purgatory to all who contributed donations and work to build a grandiose, gorgeously embellished new basilica in Francis’ honor. The remains of the man who had chosen to live a life of poverty were promptly “upgraded” to that shiny, new basilica. He probably would have wanted it that way…

“San Francesco” is a 4 foot by 3 foot dedication to the joy of simplicity and is stretched on a handmade frame.
